Port Credit Library Set to re-open in March

Finally - Port Credit library will re-open in March.   The library is one of 132 projects that must be completed by March 31 to be eligible for funding under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund.    Under this program, the Canadian and Ontario governments invested $1.85 billion for infrastructure projects to help create jobs and help stimulate the economy.

The "official" reopening event for the renovated library will take place on May 7th - location TBD.

Lorne Park Library is also set to open within this same timeframe.

The Spring Real Estate Market

More resale homes sell in Spring (April - June) than at any other time in the year.  These homes also sell at higher prices than any other time of the year.

Port Credit Post Office Update

The new owner of the Port Credit Post Office - will not be able to build retail shops and offices in the building if the municipality designates this building as a Heritage Property.

The development firm that owns the site (Centre City Capital) is planning to put retail shops on the lower levels with office space above that.    They are planning to work with the city's planning and heritage departments (as well as the citizens of the community) to develop a design that complements the 1931 original structure.

The Post office building has been described as a "rare example of public Edwardian Classicism.....that demonstrates the work of significant Canadian architects."

Once the development firm comes back with a heritage study, the committee will go forward with a decision around Heritage designation.

Mineola West Real Estate

The Spring Real Estate Market has started in Mineola and Port Credit.  Housing inventory is relatively low.  In other words - there seems to be more people looking to buy than there are homes available.  If you are thinking of selling your home - get a head-start on the Spring market.  When the weather starts to get warmer, we will see more real estate activity.

Call me at 905-278-3500 for a market assessment of your home.

Mississauga Update

In this month's issue of Mississauga Life Magazine, there is a great article by Elaine Moyle on page 24.  Moyle states that Mississauga is investing $1.2 billion towards a Bus Rapid Transit system that will run from Lake Ontario up Hurontario St. to the heart of Brampton.

In addition, our mayor hopes to examine the possibility of a 10,000 - 15,000 people sports stadium.  See my previous post on the Lakeview revitalization to see images of this.

Cool Things Going on in Port Credit

PC Arena is now open (with some limited access).  Gorgeous Renovation is close to being complete!  If you get a chance - go see it.

Check out the following website for information on "INSPIRATION LAKEVIEW".  This is a developing vision of the what will be implemented on the lands where the Ontario Power Generation Facility once stood (200 acres on the lake between Cawthra and Dixie).
